Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit Conducts Drug Raid
Yields Two Arrests and Seizes Crystal Meth

over the weekend for alleged delivery of the drug crystal meth.
The newly formed Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit conducted a narcotic investigation operation over the weekend that produced the arrest of two persons from Carrizo Springs, Texas and the seizure of Crystal Meth at a home in Carrizo Springs.
Sheriff Joel Gonzales said that after long hours of investigation and preparation, the operation was a success. The drug raid was conducted with the assistance of the Carrizo Springs U.S. Border Patrol and I.C.E. in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 22, 2010.
The Sheriff said that the Gang Unit was formed last week with the grant that was awarded and was glad to see results this soon and said that the Gang Unit will continue to work hard in the war against drugs in Dimmit County in the efforts of creating a safe environment for our citizens and our children.
The Drug Raid Operation was conducted at 2026 ABM Dr. which resulted in the arrest of Jason Avila from Carrizo Springs and Samantha Moreno Castro also from Carrizo Springs, Texas. Sheriff Gonzales reported that a good amount of Crystal Meth was also found and seized. Sheriff Gonzales said that it was apparent that both suspects were dealing from the house and that the investigation is still ongoing.
Sheriff Gonzales said Crystal Meth is one of the most dangerous and addictive drugs and that parents can help the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office by talking to their children to stay away from it or it can kill you.
Sheriff Gonzales wanted to thank the Carrizo Springs U.S. Border Patrol and I.C.E. for their valued assistance.
Both Avila and Castro were charged with delivery of a substance penalty group 1, 1st degree Felony.

On August 20th, Dimmit County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the HEB parking lot in reference to someone taking a vehicle by force.
Reports were given that a Hispanic male approached the driver and took the vehicle by knife point.
A few days later a report was also reported of a hispanic male entering Mr. B’s store on 9th Street and taking $100 out of the store register as the cashier had the register drawer open and counting money. The suspect reached and grabbed the money and ran out of the store.
The Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation division conducted an investigation that revealed the identity and involvement of the suspect.
Warrants were issued on Eddie Juarez Jr. from Carrizo Springs, Texas. Juarez was located and arrested and is incarcerated at the Dimmit County Jail.
Sheriff Gonzales urges citizens to be very careful when people approach them that they don’t know even if they are asking for money. Report these people so our deputies can identify them and remove them from these areas with the authority or the request of the business owners.
Sheriff also urged for employees to report any suspicious behavior of any customer inside of the store. Make sure that the person hands you the money first making sure that the bill is not counterfeit and secured before any money is handed to the person.
